thanks Chris! I guess I’m trying to figure out, w/ this weekend’s downtime, how we can set up our monitors around that. e.g. is it always saturdays at 18:00 UTC?

Our Platform team and can give some insight. @jawnsy & @Edward Park - do we have any standard maintenance windows?

We don’t yet have a designated time but we’d be open to considering one. We aim to schedule maintenance with a week’s notice and send notifications to subscribers of our status page, so that operators can plan accordingly, but that may vary based on the type and urgency of the maintenance. We conduct the majority of our maintenance on an ongoing basis, as long as we can do that maintenance without user impact. @Alex Turek Can you elaborate on the impact for you? cc @Jamie Zieziula

no impact on our business because we aren’t in prod yet, but a bunch of our monitors (of Prefect API status, and our queues) triggered

How do you handle maintenance outages for the other services you use?

in a past job, I’ve had standard windows that were oriented around lowest traffic/business impact… that also didn’t require our oncalls to be up at 2 am 🙂. in Prefect’s case, I think anything works for us (as a tiny little customer), I’d just like to know so I can set expected downtime on our monitors
we haven’t had any of our other SAAS monitors go off. I don’t think we have any other dependencies that have regular maintenance that causes downtime
a good examples is AWS RDS database version upgrades - those will last for like a minute tops but cause a bunch of alarms to go off, so we’d set all our service monitors to snooze for that hour

We have a lot of our own alerting so we usually set up a snooze when we schedule maintenance as well. I think if you subscribe to the status page, then you should get an email when we’ve scheduled maintenance, and you can configure a snooze accordingly - does that work for you? Maintenance that requires an outage is infrequent, but unfortunately it’s unavoidable sometimes

ok gotcha. if it’s infrequent enough for yall to not have a schedule, I won’t sweat it

Infrequent is a qualitative statement of course, you can see our historical status here: https://prefect.status.io/pages/history/5f33ff702715c204c20d6da1/container/62e16fa5a684c8053a3fe3ab Going through the list, we had maintenance on: • Aug 6 2022 • Oct 22 2022 • Dec 24 2022 • Feb 11 2023
