the usage of this community seems like it would fit better with a discourse forum, allowing tagging and searching. so many posts with detailed discussion and i can't really discover relevant posts, discern between novice/expert questions, or search for questions i may also have.

Hi @Ricky - this is something we are trying to find the right balance on. Our experience with most forums is that they reduce attention and response by artificially dividing users and failing to create a cohesive community. Our approach is to use this Slack community to address questions in threads, then archive the thread to our public GitHub issues where it becomes searchable and categorized, as well as remains available for future conversation or response.
Here’s an example of an auto-archived conversation from yesterday: https://github.com/PrefectHQ/prefect/issues/2269
But we’re always trying to find ways to improve this process - finding the balance between realtime discussion and archivable / searchable knowledge base is tough!

Didn't realize this gets into GitHub. Maybe put the link to the tagged search in the slack channel topic?

That’s a good idea - we’re working on a “welcome” message that all new users receive and we can put it there too
