Hi @Felipe Montefuscolo - what sort of license questions do you have?

In here https://github.com/PrefectHQ/prefect, the README says:
Prefect Core is licensed under the Apache Software License Version 2.0. Please note that Prefect Core includes utilities for running Prefect Server and the Prefect UI, which are themselves licensed under the Prefect Community License.
Where does this Prefect Server code live?

PrefectHQ/server

But how can you start the server from the core repo?
Or, does core contain any server/ui functionality itself?

@Felipe Montefuscolo - Prefect Core contains a
docker-compose.yaml
file that pulls tagged images of the Prefect Server and Prefect UI repos and spins them up in the same docker network

Oh I see! So I'm only affected by Prefect Community License if I import from PrefectHQ/server (like, want to change it), right? the code that is ran by the server won't be impacted
or even the code that spin up the server

The broad intention is that you can use Core for whatever you like but the backend Server cannot be used to provide a competing SaaS
For purposes of this Agreement, "Excluded Purpose" includes, but is not limited to, using the Software, or any derivative works thereof, to make available any software-as-a-service, platform-as-a-service, infrastructure-as-a-service or other similar service that competes with Prefect products or services.
Do you have a specific concern or question?

I work in a hedge-fund and I'm concerned that Prefect decides to offer cloud-based financial services 🙂
then it would be a service that competes with Prefect.

Hi Felipe, as long as you are using Prefect Server for an internal purpose (and its only users also work for your company) then you can not be in violation of our license no matter what — though for good measure I can assure you we are not planning to offer financial services anytime soon.

I see. I think that looks good so far. Thank you all for the clarifying!
