Just my 2c on prefect switching to the free version of slack. This will make it so people can't search for errors that others have posted about beyond free Slack's 90 day message retention limit šŸ˜ž

hi @Matthew Bell - it is true that stuff wont be available after 90 days, but thats always been the case (see chris' message below) (my thoughts) regardless, I'd like to see github discussions become a better alternative to digging through slack threads for persisting common answers/patterns that many way want to know slack will always be around for one-off / idiosyncratic questions / answers, but I think github discussions are easier to build on in a compounding / more easily searchable way I'd like also to hear @Chris White’s thoughts on this

We didn't actually switch to the free version - we've always been on the free version; we did a short upgrade to change an app permission that Slack was preventing us from doing. To the core of the point though: +1 to GitHub discussions, it's far better SEO, discoverability, and longevity. Also github tracks activity (even emoji reactions) so it's easier for the dev team to find things that the community cares about vs. slack which is optimized for one off conversations that eventually disappear

So, you'd prefer we not ask questions here any more?
c
Not necessarily, I think it depends on the nature of the question: • for questions where you want community input or short questions for help, Slack is probably best; ultimately we have no plans to stop monitoring Slack • for possible bug reports, or enhancement requests, or best practice discussions, GitHub Issues & Discussions will be best as that's closer to where the work is happening and those sorts of questions are the ones that people tend to search for over long timescales

Fair counterpoints. I've found that response time to slack questions are better than github issues, which can take days/weeks to be acknowledged. But I do take your points on SEO/centralizing stuff in one place šŸ‘

Yea, and also feel free to start with a github issue for persisting the question and then follow up with a slack question if you want! Also, we are prioritizing OSS a lot more with our 3.0 release, so I hope that you notice a much faster response time on GitHub the next time you open something there šŸ™
